Staff raise cash in the battle against cancer
Staff at Sunderland-based contact centre and marketing services fulfilment specialist 2Touch, have raised thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Lynn Kane, facilities office services manager at 2Touch, encouraged workmates to participate in numerous fundraising activities, raising over £4,000.
Lynn said: “Each year we ask staff to nominate a worthy cause and this year we backed Macmillan.
“As part of the fundraising efforts I challenged myself to lose two stone in weight. Over a four month period I gradually shifted the pounds. There was no chance to succumb to office treats as my kind hearted colleagues donated £1,150 to Macmillan, which helped spur me on.
“We also held a large raffle which raised nearly £2,000 and two ‘non-uniform’ days which raised £1,000. We are looking to hold a final raffle where we hope to raise at least another £1,000.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank colleagues who have kindly donated to the charity and to those who have helped with the fundraising. At 2Touch we are always looking at ways to help local, worthy causes. Over the years we have helped raise funds for charities such as Sport Relief and World Cancer Research Fund.
“As a large organisation it is a great way for us to come together, have fun and give something back to the community.”
Sarah Goldie, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support throughout Wearside, said: “We are delighted 2Touch chose to support our charity. As a voluntary organisation we rely heavily on funding and are very grateful for the time and effort 2Touch employees have put into helping our cause.
“At Macmillan we aim to provide practical, financial and medical support as well as pushing continually for better cancer care. Our goal is to reach out to, and improve, the lives of people in the North East who are affected by cancer.
“The money will help fund vital services in the area, including help for after-care patients, who are looking to get back to work or need support adjusting back to their daily lives.
“We are also opening an information centre at Sunderland Royal Hospital, so the money we received has helped us to provide patients, their families and friends with details about treatment or support services.”
